WHY WE DO IT

OUR STORY

Our Story

The Anaheim Union High School District offers more than 20 Career Technical Education pathways representing more than a dozen industries at 10 high schools, including engineering, biomedical science, medical careers, finance, construction, cybersecurity-AI, and computer science.

In addition, we have established a work-based learning program that is primed for growth. Our AIME- Anaheim’s Innovative Mentoring Experience Program, launched by former Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait and AUHSD Superintendent Michael Matsuda, enlists the support of 100+ business participants, spans 20 cities and includes 2 states- California and New York. Our students benefit from exposure to career opportunities and workforce preparedness experiences through career mentoring events, and internships with partners such as Kaiser Permanente, Wells Fargo, Rolls-Royce HTC, Anaheim Public Utilities, Disneyland Resort, Lennar Homes, and a range of other business, corporate and non-profit partners. Providing over 16,250+ student experience between 2015-2023, the AIME Program plays a critical role in providing AUHSD students with the necessary skills, and confidence for success in their college and career pursuits.

HOW WE DO IT

Why We Do It

Why AIME? More than 70 percent of our students come from economically challenged backgrounds, and spend their time outside of school assisting their families, either at home or by working low-wage jobs. At the same time, the demands of our local and global economy call for a highly-skilled, highly educated workforce. Our low-income and minority students are rarely provided enough opportunities to gain the necessary skills and experience to meet these demands. AIME, a comprehensive mentorship program that also includes opportunities for paid summer internships, holds the promise of transforming the lives of our students as they not only prepare for the demands of college and career in an authentic environment but also make community connections that will last a lifetime.

“Mentoring an Anaheim Union High School District student will change the way you think about your work and the community, and most importantly, it will change students' lives.  AUHSD students represent the future of Anaheim—and your kindness in giving them your time, your advice, and introducing them to your profession will change our city for the better. Thank you for investing in the lives of our youth through your partnership with AIME. It will make a tremendous difference.”
